Our Principles

IAQI’s mission is centered around three core tenets.

The First Principle

Facilitate the development of qualitative research methods across a wide variety of academic disciplines.

The Second Principle

Demonstrate the promise of qualitative inquiry as a form of democratic practice.

The Third Principle

Show how qualitative inquiry can be used to directly engage pressing social issues across local, state, national and global communities.

The International Congress of Qualitative Inquiry returns in person in 2027

The International Association of Qualitative Inquiry Board of Directors decided in 2025 that we were not able to organize an ICQI in 2026 (in-person or virtual). While building the infrastructure to support the Board, we did not have time to replace the two main ICQI organizers, Dr. Michael Giardina and Dr. James Salvo, and the organizing platform. Our contract with Cvent ended in May 2025 and we were not in a position to renew a long-term contract. Our goal is to relaunch ICQI in 2027 in an in-person format. We will also examine virtual options, either as a synchronous platform during the in-person congress or as a separate virtual platform shortly after the in-person gathering.
