Transition in Editorship of the International Review of Qualitative Research

The International Association of Qualitative Inquiry (IAQI) is pleased to announce an upcoming transition in the editorship of the International Review of Qualitative Research (IRQR), the official journal of the Association.

The IAQI Board of Directors expresses its deep gratitude to the current editor, Dr. Michael Giardina, for his outstanding leadership and dedicated service to the journal. Under Dr. Giardina’s editorship, IRQR has continued to advance innovative and rigorous qualitative scholarship, strengthening its reputation as an important venue for critical and creative qualitative inquiry.

Following a unanimous and enthusiastic vote by the IAQI Board of Directors, Dr. Bryant Keith Alexander has been appointed as the next Editor of the International Review of Qualitative Research. Dr. Alexander will begin his term in September 2026.

Dr. Bryant Keith Alexander, Dean and Professor, College of Communication and Fine Arts, Loyola Marymount University commented:

“I appreciate the trust of this nomination, and I look forward to the opportunity to serve and uphold the high standards of editorship established by both our beloved Norman Denzin and Michael Giardina.”

Dr. Giardina will continue to serve as Ex-Officio Editor for several months during the transition period. In this role, he will assist Dr. Alexander and help oversee the issues of the journal currently in progress, ensuring continuity and a smooth handoff in editorial leadership.

Dr. Michael Giardina, IRQR Editor, Professor of Physical Cultural Studies and Qualitative Inquiry, Florida State University, wrote:

“I am overjoyed with the selection of Bryant Keith Alexander as the next Editor-in-Chief of IRQR. Bryant has been a leader in the field for more than two decades, and brings a wealth of administrative and editorial experience to the role spanning communications, performance studies, autoethnography, and the study of race, gender, and sexuality. The journal will be in fantastic hands with Bryant at the helm. I can’t wait to see him take IRQR into the future!”

The IAQI Board warmly thanks Dr. Giardina for his exceptional contributions and looks forward with great enthusiasm to the vision and leadership that Dr. Alexander will bring to IRQR. Further updates will be shared with the IAQI membership through our quarterly Newsletter and IAQI website as the transition approaches. To check the latest issue of the journal, check the website.
