Updates from the Co-Presidents of the International Association of Qualitative Inquiry (IAQI)

We would like to share a few updates with our ICQI community. We understand that there is widespread concern about the lack of information about the future of ICQI at this point. We, the co-presidents (Marcelo Diversi and Kathy Roulston) and the new IAQI Board of Directors (see list of folks below), have been working on creating a new infrastructure for IAQI and ICQI on a weekly basis. Here are some current developments:

  1. We developed a document, the ICQI Host Proposal Guidelines, for folks who might be interested in hosting an in-person ICQI in 2027. We will need to make a decision by December of 2025. Please contact the co-presidents at diversi@wsu.edu and/or roulston@ug.edu if you would like to receive a copy of the guidelines. We will keep the community posted on the progress of this project.
  2. We hired a professional company to develop a new website for our renewed IAQI that will feature information about ICQI, along with other related work, such as the International Review of Qualitative Research, our IAQI official journal, collaborative events and sites, lectures, workshops, etc. We expect the new IAQI website to be launched by the end of November, 2025.
  3. We will be sending out a quarterly IAQI/ICQI Newsletter soon, by the end of October 2025, with updates on our progress in developing a new infrastructure of the association and the congress, the next steps in creating the necessary committees for the IAQI (treasury, communications, advisory committee, awards, conference organizing, sponsorship), a call for the next IRQR Editor and Associate Editor, etc.
  4. IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT ICQI AWARDS: Given that we need time to relaunch ICQI, and that we will NOT have an ICQI in 2026, we will NOT have our regular awards this coming year. We will resume the Book Award, the Dissertation Award, the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2027. We will communicate about the details of these awards in the middle of 2026 via our IAQI Newsletter and the new IAQI/ICQI website.
