Qualitative Inquiry: Creating Inclusive Communities for Pluriversal Futures
The field of qualitative inquiry has long been characterized by diversity and debate across a multitude of disciplines. This community of scholars has for decades advanced theoretical and methodological approaches to qualitative and mixed methods inquiry in ways that seek to contribute to a just and inclusive society.
For the relaunching of an in-person International Congress of Qualitative Inquiry in May 2027, we invite scholars to reflect on the collective histories of our fields, critically engage with the challenges of this moment, and imagine more just, equitable and inclusive futures in a world of many worlds. Scholars are invited to explore the institutional, social, technological, environmental, political and ethical challenges facing people globally, and the methodological, theoretical, and practical strategies researchers use to explore research problems. We welcome scholarship that examines the diversity of traditions, epistemologies, theories, methodologies and practices that drive and shape inquiry.

- Please know that while the website is fully populated in many areas, it is still under construction. We will be correcting any errors, improving navigation, adding new sections, and incorporating feedback from the community as we move forward.
- Content from the previous ICQI website has been preserved and will be available in the new IAQI website, most in the “Our History” tab.
- Please note that we will be using new email addresses on all ICQI and IAQI communication moving forward. For now, the new email address for questions is iaqi@qualitativeinquiry.org .

The 2027 ICQI at the University of Georgia will continue the tradition of holding pre-conference Special Interest Group (SIG) meetings
We will ask all SIGs to plan on meeting on the day before the regular ICQI schedule. The regular ICQI conference will take place on Saturday and Sunday (29 and 30 of May) in 2027. SIGs should plan to meet on Friday, May 28.
At this time, the SIG descriptions reflect the content as it appeared on the former site. If you would like to revise or update the description of your SIG’s activities, focus, or leadership, please email us with the updated text, and we will be happy to make those changes.
Thank you for your continued leadership of the SIGs and for your contributions to the ICQI community. We will be in touch with SIG leaders in September with more details.

International Review of Qualitative Research (IRQR)
The IRQR is the official journal of the International Association of Qualitative Inquiry (IAQI). IRQR is a peer-reviewed journal founded to advance the use of critical, experimental, and traditional forms of qualitative inquiry towards the pursuit of social justice.
In case you missed our recent announcement, we are pleased to share that the Editor transition from Dr. Michael Giardina to Dr. Bryant Alexander is underway. Dr. Bryant Alexander will officially take the reins in September of this year. Dr. Giardina will continue as ex-officio Editor until all manuscripts submitted, reviewed, and accepted under his Editorship move through the regular process.

Other Updates
- We continue to work on developing the new infrastructure (communication, financial, administrative)
- Our traditional awards — Outstanding Book Award, Norman K. Denzin Qualitative DoctoralDissertation Award, and Lifetime Achievement Award — will resume in 2027. The call for nominations for each award is now open, please find more information and details on our website.
- We are yet to work on gathering and organizing the new necessary committees for our renewed IAQI to operate in sustainable ways moving forward (Finances, Communications, Advisory Committee, Conference Organization, Sponsorship). We will focus on this step now that we finalized the plans for the 2027 ICQI re-launch. We will continue to keep you informed about these developments through our quarterly IAQI Newsletter and the IAQI website.
